Anderson Island Quilts of Valor
The first Quilt of Valor was awarded in 2003 at Walter Reed Medical Center by founder Catherine Roberts, to a serviceman who had lost his leg in Iraq. As of November, 2018 QOV has awarded 200,000 QOV to Veterans and Service members.
The Mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. The quilts are created with love as a tangible “thank you” from quilters across the country for the sacrifices and service of these recipients.
The Anderson Island Quits of Valor quilters had their first meeting in July 2013 and had 22 quilters join. We currently have 16 members and 12 of the original 22 quilters that work creating quilts. At the onset; the A.I. QOV Quilters had a special mission and that is to Award a QOV to all Anderson Island Veterans and current Service members when possible. To date we have awarded 200 QOV to Island Veterans and have completed 243 QOV. In addition to our Islanders we have awarded QOV to homeless veterans at Nativity House in Tacoma and respond to special requests from the QOVF and make QOV for special family members.
Our Mission has had continued and very much appreciated financial support from American Legion Post 265. We also receive personal donations. These funds are utilized strictly for purchasing fabric, batting and thread to complete the quilts.
